COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Junior Anna Kennedy and the BYU women's golf team as a whole finished in third place after the first day at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Championship.

"I was really happy with our turnaround today and it was promising to see everyone contribute," head coach Carrie Roberts said. "Anna had a great day which was really good to see. I'm proud of how hard everyone fought today."

Kennedy found her groove in Idaho, finishing the day as the Cougars' top golfer just one week after finishing fifth on the team at last week's opening tournament in Tennessee. She shot a 69 (-2) in the first round to give herself some breathing room, and then followed it up with a solid 72 (+1) in the second round of the day to remain tied for third overall.

Sophomore Naomi Soifua also finished in the top 25 after the opening day, tied for 23rd. She shot a 74 (+3) in the first round, but made up for it going for an even 71 in the second.

The team fluctuated between second and fifth place throughout the day, but was able to secure the third place slot thanks in part to a solid, on-par second round by senior Rose Huang, who finished the day tied for 39th.

BYU plays a final 18-hole round tomorrow to finish out the tournament. The leaderboard can be found at GolfStat.com.
