BYU in ninth after two rounds of the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals

AUSTIN, Texas ­– Rose Huang’s 2-under-par 70, combined with teammate Kendra Dalton's 1-under-par 71 in the second round of the NCAA Austin Women's Golf Regionals, has BYU women’s golf tied for ninth with just one round to play. 

“I am super proud of how Rose and Kendra are playing,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “They are carrying the team and playing very well.”

The Cougars carded a team total of 296 (+8) on the second day of competition for a 36-hole total of 587 (+11) and are tied for ninth with Michigan. BYU is four shots behind Auburn 583 (+7) and six strokes behind four teams tied for fourth place at 581 (+5)—Baylor, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Arkansas has a commanding lead with a two-day total of 551 (-21). The top six teams will continue on to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 18-23. 

Huang finished the day tied for fifth place individually, with a two-round total of 71-70–141(-3). She carded six birdies in the second round, including three in the final five holes and is just four shots behind the leader, Maddie Szyerk of Texas A&M who is at 137 (-7). Huang moved up 10 spots in the individual rankings from yesterday.

Dalton fired a second-round 71 (-1) for a two-day total of 71-71–142 (-2) and a tie for eighth place. She birdied back-to-back holes on 8 and 9, as well as the par-3 16th.  

Naomi Soifua and Annie Yang are tied for 60th with a two-day total of 152 (+8). Soifua carded a 78 (+6) on the second day of competition while Yang posted a 77 (+5). Anna Kennedy shot 78 (+6) in the second round and is tied for 73rd with a 36-hole total of 154 (+10).

The Cougars compete in the final day of the NCAA Austin Regional Wednesday at 9 a.m. CDT at the University of Texas Golf Course. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.
