LONG BEACH, Calif. —  Behind top-20 finishes from Naomi Soifua, Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang, No. 45 BYU women’s golf placed second on Tuesday at The Gold Rush. With the runner-up finish, BYU women’s golf records its best finish of the 2017-18 season.

"I am encouraged by our play in the last two rounds," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We shot ourselves out of it in the first round, but I loved the way we battled back."

After firing the lowest team score (+5) in the second round, the Cougars shot +7 in the final round to claim second place at +24. Georgia recorded the victory, shooting +19 as a team through 54 holes. WCC foes Santa Clara and Gonzaga finished in ninth place and 13th place, respectively.

Soifua led the Cougars in round three, carding a team-low 72. The freshman tied for seventh place at The Gold Rush to record her best finish as a Cougar. She finished the event at +6.

Dalton and Huang tied for 12th place, both shooting +8 in the 54-hole event. Dalton fired a final-round 73, while Huang carded a 74.
