Defending WCC champion women's golf team begins season at Minnesota Invitational

PROVO, Utah — Defending West Coast Conference Champion BYU women’s golf will open the 2017-18 season on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Minnesota Invitational held at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minnesota.

“We are very excited to start the year,” Coach Carrie Roberts said. “We expect to compete and grow as a team, and we expect to be very competitive. We are young, and I am excited to see how we can grow throughout the year.”

Cougar players Kendra DaltonRose HuangAnna KennedyAiko Leong and Annie Yang will return to the 2017-18 roster. BYU women’s golf will also add three freshmen to the lineup: Gracie Richens, St. George, Utah; Naomi Soifua, Provo, Utah; and Maddie White, Lompoc, California.

Dalton and Huang both competed in all 10 team events during the 2016-17 season, and posted a combined 12 top-10 finishes. Dalton finished the 2016-17 campaign with a BYU record individual stroke average of 72.89.

The two-time WCC champion Cougars will appear in the Minnesota Invitational for the first time on Sept. 11-12.

Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 11 and finish tournament play with an additional 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Prestwick Golf Club will be playing 6,248 yards and par 72.

BYU women’s golf play alongside 13 competing universities: host Minnesota, East Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Texas, Notre Dame, Purdue, USC, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Tee times will begin Monday, Sept. 11 at 6:45 a.m. MT. Tournament play at the Minnesota Invitational can be followed live, as links to live scoring are provided on the BYU women’s golf schedule page
