White records top-20 finish at NCAA Championships
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. — Alexandra White fired a 74 in the third round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Golf Championships on Monday to record a 14th-place individual finish in her final tournament as a Cougar.
"I am so proud and impressed with Alex and her play this week," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "The conditions were extremely difficult and she was so tough. She managed herself and the golf course very well. It was a great way to end her career."
Ranked No. 67 by Golfstat.com, White carded 77-74 to shoot +7 through the first two rounds of the NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms. The senior fired a third-round 74 (+2) on Monday to finish the tournament at +9.
White started off the third round strong, birdying the second hole to move to -1 on the day. The California native carded a 35 on the front nine. White then posted a +3 39 on the back nine, finishing with a birdie on 18.
White’s 14th-place finish marks her 10th top-20 finish of the 2016-17 season.
Eight teams advance to the match play portion of the NCAA Championships: No. 12 Northwestern (+33), No. 1 Stanford (+42), No. 7 Arizona State (+45), No. 25 Ohio State (+49), No. 6 USC (+50), No. 3 Florida (+50), No. 17 Baylor (+53) and No. 14 Kent State (+55).
West Coast Conference foe No. 31 Pepperdine took 23rd place in the 2017 NCAA Championships.
Last season BYU women’s golf placed 24th at the 2016 NCAA Championships held in Eugene, Oregon. Kendra Dalton posted the top score for the Cougars, tying for 36th place at +4.
