White tied for 19th after NCAA Championships first round
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. — Alexandra White is tied for 19th place as the senior competed in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships on Friday in very difficult conditions.
"Alex's 77 was the sixth best score in the morning wave," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "She played in the hardest weather conditions I have ever seen in a tournament, so her 77 was very impressive today."
Ranked No. 67, White carded a +5 77 in Friday's rainy, windy and cold first round. The California native started on the back nine, shooting +3, and finished with a front-nine 38 (+2). White's lone birdie of the day came on the par-5 11th hole.
"The conditions were tough today," White said. "I believe I can play better. I definitely have some strokes to make up tomorrow."
As BYU has a policy of not competing in Sunday play, White officially opened the NCAA Championships on Thursday afternoon. She fired a +2 74 that will count as her score for Sunday's third round.
The senior will continue NCAA Championship play on Saturday and will tee off at 1:25 p.m. CDT. Links to live scoring are provided on the BYU women's golf schedule page.
