Cougars drop to ninth place in round two of NCAA Lubbock Regional
LUBBOCK, Texas — No. 28 BYU women’s golf dropped to ninth place in the 2017 NCAA Lubbock Regional despite a second-round 70 from senior Alexandra White on Tuesday at The Rawls Course.
“I am very proud of how Alex (White) is playing,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We need to play better tomorrow.”
After firing a team score of 297 (+9) on Monday, the Cougars carded 301 (+13) in Tuesday’s round of 18. BYU shot +6 through the first nine holes and +7 on the back nine to finish the day at +22 overall.
The Cougars are four strokes behind No. 30 San Diego State and one stroke ahead of Oregon State. Arizona State leads all teams at -6 through 36 holes.
White continues to lead BYU women’s golf, shooting -2 in the second round of the NCAA Lubbock Regional. The senior, who was tied for fourth place on Monday, is now tied for second place with a total score of 141 through two rounds of play.
White is tied with Furman’s Haylee Harford at -3, while Monica Vaughn of Arizona State leads all competitors at -5.
Brooklyn Hocker fired a 74, just as she did on Monday. Hocker started and finished the round strong. The senior began the round birdying the first and second hole, and then finished with a birdie on 17. Hocker is tied for 22nd place through 36 holes.
Rose Huang shot +8 on Tuesday to move to +9 for the event. Huang is now tied for 49th place overall.
In round two, Kendra Dalton and Lauren Atkinson carded 77 and 82, respectively. Dalton moved from 69th to 68th place, while Atkinson moved to 92nd.
The top six team scores and top three individual scores not on those teams will advance to the 2017 NCAA Championships held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
