BYU wins second-straight WCC golf title, White medals
West Coast Conference Women's Video Recap
PROVO, Utah — Alexandra White's first place finish at the 2017 West Coast Conference Golf Championships guided No. 27 BYU women's golf to its second-straight WCC title at Riverside Country Club golf course on Saturday.
"We just battled," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "The girls are solid. They keep getting better and tougher. This win shows how hard the girls work and speaks a lot about the kind of people they are. They deserve it. They deserve the credit and recognition.
The Cougars, who put an end to No. 36 Pepperdine's 14-year win streak last season, pulled ahead of the Waves in the third round to win the WCC title by 11 strokes. The Cougars fired a total team score of 293 (+5) on Saturday.
White fired a final-round 70 to claim medalist honors. The senior's first-place victory makes for the second of her Cougar career. White won the 2015 BYU at Entrada Classic, shooting 8-under-par. At the 2017 WCC Championships, White finished the tournament at +1 through 54 holes.
"Alex has played steady for us the entire year," Roberts said. "She has been clutch. She is so confident. I loved everything about her round today."
Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang tied for second place. The duo both had chances to force a playoff for first place on the 18th green. Dalton carded a third-round 73 and Huang fired a 74. With the T2 finish, Dalton totals three second-place finishes in the 2016-17 season, and Huang now has two on the season.
Brooklyn Hocker also finished in the top 10. Hocker carded 75-73-76 through 54 holes. Hocker finished the tournament alone in eighth place. The senior shot +8 for the event. Lauren Atkinson recorded her second top-20 finish of the year. The senior tied for 16th place at +20.
BYU women's golf awaits a regional bid to the 2017 NCAA Division 1 Regional.
