Huang propels women's golf to third-place finish at Dale McNamara
TULSA, Okla. — BYU women's golf placed third at the Dale McNamara Invitational held at the Tulsa Country Club on Tuesday, as Rose Huang tied for third place individually.
"We had three birdies to finish the round, so it is good to end strong," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We didn't manage the course well this week, but I am proud of Rose (Huang) and Alex (White) for finishing so well."
As a team, the Cougars fired 307-291-295 to finish at +53 for the event. Host Tulsa placed first, shooting +41 through 54 holes, while New Mexico finished in second place at +46.
Huang fired a 4-over 74 to conclude the event at 9-over-par. The sophomore's third-place finish makes for her fourth top-5 finish of the 2016-17 season. Alexandra White also placed in the top 10 on Tuesday, tying for ninth place. White carded 76-70-76 to shoot 12-over in three rounds of play. White now has three top-5 finishes on the year.
Kendra Dalton responded with a 71 on Tuesday after the junior carded 81-76 on Monday. Dalton tied for 20th place at the Dale McNamara Invitational. She has finished in the top 20 in every stroke-play event this season.
Lauren Atkinson and Brooklyn Hocker tied for 22nd and 29th, respectively. Atkinson finished at +19, while Hocker shot +23.
Aiko Leong and Anna Kennedy competed in the tournament as individuals. Leong carded 80 on Tuesday, while Kennedy recorded her lowest score of the event, shooting 7-over.
With the third place finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational, BYU women's golf concludes the 2016-17 regular season. The Cougars will compete in the West Coast Conference Championship April 20-22 held at Riverside Country Club in Provo. BYU took first place at the WCC Championship last season at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California.
