Atkinson named WCC February Player of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Senior Lauren Atkinson was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for the month of February on Friday.

Receiving her first league honor, Atkinson led the Cougars in both of their events in February.

The Bow, Washington, native won both of her matches in the Trilogy Collegiate Quad Matches on Feb. 11, beating Sarah Archuleta of Colorado State 3&2, and Idaho’s Kendall Gray 2&1. Her play helped BYU to 5&1 victories in both matches.

Atkinson also tied for fourth place at The Gold Rush held Feb. 27-28. She carded 74-73-70 through 54 holes of play, shooting 1-over (217) for the tournament. Atkinson’s third-round 70 makes for her lowest posted round of the 2016-17 season.

Atkinson’s stroke average for the month of February was 72.3.
