Day One

SEAL BEACH, Calif. — BYU women's golf recorded a second-place finish as a team at The Gold Rush behind top-10 finishes from Rose Huang, Alexandra White and Kendra Dalton.

"Today was good, but we needed great," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "The wind came up today and we just didn't capitalize on our birdie chances. Our girls that finished in the top 10 were solid, and it was really good to see them finish so well."

The Cougars fired an overall team score of 880 (+16) through 54 holes of play. BYU shot the fourth best team score of the third round shooting 7-over-par. The Cougar women birdied 10 holes as a team in round three.

Huang finished the tournament at 1-over. The sophomore tied for fourth place at The Gold Rush for her first top-5 finish of the spring and third of the 2016-17 season.

White and Dalton also both placed in the top-10 for the Cougars, with White placing sixth and Dalton finishing 10th. White recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the season, while Dalton garnered her third top-10 finish.

White shot even par in round three at finished the tournament at 2-over. Dalton carded a 73 in the third round to shoot 4-over-par over three rounds of play.

Brooklyn Hocker and Aiko Leong tied for 50th and 58th place, respectively.

Lauren Atkinson, who competed in the event individually, also tied for fourth place at 1-over. She carded a third-round score of 70 (-2) to move into fourth place. Atkinson's fourth place finish was a personal best.

"It was good to see Lauren (Atkinson) play so well," Roberts said. "It should be a nice confidence booster for the rest of the semester."

Also participating as an individual, Anna Kennedy placed 58th. Kennedy shot 19-over through 54 holes.

The Cougars will continue spring play March 6-7 at the Meadow Club Women's Intercollegiate.
