No. 31 Cougars in second after two rounds at The Gold Rush

SEAL BEACH, Calif. — Behind three top-20 finishes from Kendra Dalton, Rose Huang and Alexandra White, No. 31 BYU women's golf sits in second place after the first round of The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State on Monday.

Teams were originally scheduled to complete two rounds Monday, but play was suspended due to darkness. The final few holes of round two will be played Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m. MST before the third round begins.

"I was pleased with our play," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We got off to a rocky start, but we are a resilient team, and once we settled in we were okay. We have to clean up a few things, but I am pleased with our mind set."

After the first round of play, the Cougars sat in second place at 5-over-par, four strokes behind the leader, San Jose State. Dalton shot even par through the first 18 holes. The junior shot 2-under-par on the back nine, birdying three-straight on holes 14, 15 and 16.

Huang and White both finished at 1-over, shooting a 73 in the first round. Aiko Leong tied for 24th place after 18 holes. The freshman shot 3-over-par. Brooklyn Hocker rounded out the scoring for the Cougars, shooting 11-over-par.

Lauren Atkinson and Anna Kennedy competed in the event individually. Atkinson carded a first-round 74, tying for 19th place. Kennedy finished the first round with an 80.

West Coast Conference foes Gonzaga and Santa Clara competed alongside the Cougars, placing sixth and eighth, respectively.  

BYU will finish second-round play Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. PST. The third round will follow. Links to live stats can be found on the BYU women's golf schedule.
