SAN JOSE, Calif. – BYU women’s golf leads all teams at 14 over after the first day of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Monday.

“Our girls played very different from morning to afternoon,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “It was soft in the morning and in the afternoon it dried up and became very firm. You could definitely score. It was a good course and I'm proud of the way our girls played.”

At the end of day one, BYU sits in first place leading the 11-team field at 14 over at the Almaden Golf and Country Club golf course. The course covers 6190 yards and is set at a par 72. The Cougars shot a total team score of 590 through 36 holes of play. West Coast Conference opponents Santa Clara, Gonzaga and San Francisco are also competing. Santa Clara is currently tied for fourth shooting 26 over, while Gonzaga is tied for seventh and San Francisco is in 10th.

Junior Kendra Dalton led the Cougars shooting two-under in round one and one-under in the second round, putting her at three-under for the day and tied for first place overall in the competition. Dalton ended the day with 12 birdies through 36 holes of play. Senior Brooklyn Hocker is tied for 10th place as she shot two-over and senior Alexandra White is tied for 14th place. Lauren Atkinson and Rose Huang are tied for 35th and 46th, respectively.

“Kendra carried us today with 12 birdies,” coach Roberts said. “She was our main highlight. Alex played very well and was consistent throughout the day too.”

The final round of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational will be played on Tuesday. Live stats can be found on the BYU women’s golf schedule page.
