EUGENE, Oregon (May 21, 2016) — The BYU women's golf team struggled to find its rhythm in the second round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday at Eugene Country Club, posting an 18-over-par round of 306. The Cougars now find themselves in 24th place after two rounds of play.

“We just couldn’t seem to get anything going today, “BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “Eugene Country Club is a tough layout and we struggled to find a groove.”

The Cougars were led once again by junior Alexandra White and sophomore Kendra Dalton. White, who opened play on Friday with a 2-under-par 70, shot a 2-over-par 74 in Saturday’s round for an even par, 36-hole total of 144.  Dalton followed up an even-par round of 72 on Friday with a 4-over-par performance on Saturday, good for a two-round score of 148.

“Alex and Kendra played well again today,” Roberts said. “Kendra has been very consistent all week and is playing with a lot of confidence. Alex has been super focused and struck the ball well both days.”

Rounding out the scoring for BYU on Saturday was freshman Rose Huang and junior Brooklyn Hocker who both carded rounds of 78, and senior Lea Garner who finished the day with a 79.

The Cougars will now take Sunday off as the rest of the field will compete in the third round of the NCAA Championship. To accommodate BYU’s longstanding policy of not competing on Sunday, the NCAA made provisions for the Cougars to play its Sunday round on Thursday afternoon. BYU posted a 10-over-par 298 on Thursday that will be factored into the tournament’s 54-hole totals on Sunday.

The NCAA Championship format consists of 54 holes of stroke play from May 19-22. Following Sunday’s third round, the top 15 teams will play one additional round of stroke play on May 23 to determine the 72-hole stroke play individual champion and also the top eight teams that will advance to match play on May 24-25.
