No. 25 Cougars in first place after day one of Red Raider Invitational
LUBBOCK, Texas — Despite windy conditions, the No. 25 BYU women's golf team is in first place after the first round of play at the Red Raider Invitational on Friday.
"Everyone played really well today," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "Our second round was especially good. Everyone made birdies at the beginning, which is a great way to start off. Playing well in bad conditions is also really encouraging. We've put ourselves in a good position today to finish it up tomorrow."
After shooting 6 over in the first round, BYU played a strong second round. Rose Huang, who leads the Cougars, is tied for fifth place at 1 under after shooting an eagle on the first hole of the second round. The Cougars are one stroke ahead of second place Purdue, who sits even after the first two rounds.
Huang is tied for fifth after 36 holes of play. Teammate Lea Garner is tied for ninth place after shooting 4 under in the second round. Brooklyn Hocker is tied for 12th place after shooting 1 under in the second round. Kendra Dalton currently sits tied for 23rd with teammate Alexandra White, both are 4 over.
The Cougars will finish the final round of play tomorrow morning. The event can be followed live.
