Huang helps Cougars to seventh place finish after round one
FAIRFAX, Calif. — Freshman Rose Huang shot two over par in the first round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate to help BYU women's golf to a seventh place finish Monday.
"I am proud of the way the girls battled on a tough day," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "It was difficult with the rain, the puddles and the wind. We are glad we got 18 holes in today, and we look forward to tomorrow."
Teams only played 18 holes today due to bad weather, and will finish the tournament with 18 holes tomorrow. BYU sits in seventh place at 15 over par, shooting a total score of 303 for the day.
Huang, who is tied for 13th place, shot 74 in today’s round. Birdying the 17th hole, she tallied one of the few birdies on the day due to the weather conditions.
Kendra Dalton is currently tied for 19th place overall. Dalton shot three over par through today’s 18 holes and birdied the 12th hole. Alexandra White, who is tied for 25th, birdied the 16th hole and finished today’s round at four over par.
Finishing the day at six over par, Lea Garner shot a 78. Garner is tied for 39th place individually. Brooklyn Hocker finished the day tied for 46th, and she shot seven over par today.
West Coast Conference host San Francisco sits in front of BYU in sixth place at 14 over par, and Oregon State leads the pack of teams at seven over par. WCC foes Gonzaga and Pepperdine sit in eighth and 10th, respectively.
BYU women’s golf will play the second and final round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Groups will tee off in a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. PST. The event can be followed live.
