White leads No. 25 women to a tie for fourth place after day one
SEAL BEACH, Calif. — Behind a top-10 first day finish from Alexandra White, No. 25 BYU women's golf is tied for fourth place after 36 holes of play at The Gold Rush.
"We had a rough start," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We will make some adjustments and go for a good round tomorrow."
White shot two-under-par in the first round and four-over-par in the second round to finish at 146 (+2) after the first day of play. White is tied for seventh place and birdied five holes on the day.
Lauren Atkinson and Rose Huang are tied for 17th place overall at four-over-par. Atkinson, who shot six-over-par in the first round, shot two-under-par in Round 2. She shot a six-under-par 30 on the front nine of the second round. Atkinson eagled the seventh hole Par-3 for a hole-in-one. Huang birdied six holes on the day including three of the last six.
The Cougars sit at 20-over-par as a team after the first two rounds of the event. They are tied for fourth place with Colorado State, whom they went head-to-head with last week in Arizona. BYU shot 300 (+12) in the first round of 18 and shot 296 (+8) in the second. West Coast Conference foe, Gonzaga, is currently in 10th place overall, shooting 34-over-par through 36 holes.
Annie Yang shot 11-over-par for the day. Yang is currently tied for 45th place, individually. Kendra Dalton sits in 59th place after the first two rounds. Dalton shot 14-over-par through 36 holes of play.
Lea Garner, who is competiting in the event as an individual, is tied for 30th place. Garner shot four-over-par in the first round and three-over-par in the second round to finish at seven-over-par.
BYU will play the third and final round of The Gold Rush, Tuesday. Teams will tee off a 8 a.m. PST in a shotgun start. The event can be followed live.
