Women down Colorado State in head-to-head match
PHOENIX — BYU women's golf downed Colorado State by 15-strokes in its head-to-head match this weekend, while Annie Yang finished first place individually.
“We are feeling really good about where we are,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “It was a great weekend of play out of the off season. I am happy for Annie. She put it together, and her hard work has paid off. Her individual win shows the great depth we have on this team.”
The Cougars shot nine-over-par as a team through three rounds of play, and the Rams finished the match at 26-over-par. After the first round Friday morning, the Cougars had a nine-stroke-lead over the Rams, as BYU shot 3-under-par as a team to Colorado State's six-over-par. In the second round, teams shot 291 and 298, respectively.
Yang, who shot three-under-par through 36 holes, finished the third round strong shooting even par. Yang finished the event at three-under-par with a total of 210 for first place.
After 18 holes, freshman Rose Huang led all players individually with a 68. It was her best round yet of the 2015-16 season. Huang tied for second individually, shooting two-over-par for the whole event. Teammate Alexandra White also tied for second place individually shooting 215 through three rounds of play.
Kendra Dalton shot one-under-par through the first 18 holes of play, and finished the first day at five-over-par. After the third round, Dalton sat at six-over-par and took eighth.
Brooklyn Hocker shot a pair of 72's through the first two rounds two-over-par through 36 holes. Hocker then shot a 77 to finish at eight-over-par through 54 holes.
Senior Lea Garner tied for fourth place shooting 217 through three rounds of play, shooting a pair of 72’s in the last two rounds of the event. Lauren Atkinson shot five-over-par through 54 holes and shot three-under-par in the third round.
BYU women’s golf will kick off its spring season officially in The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State February 22-23.
