Day 2

WAHIAWA, Hawai'i — Placing first and third, respectively, Rose Huang and Brooklyn Anderson Hocker led BYU to its third outright first-place finish of the fall season at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Thursday.

"It feels awesome," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "It's great to see the girls' hard work pay off. It's satisfying to be able to have such a deep team of talented players who can score well on any given day. All of the girls contributed in a great overall team win this week."

The Cougars shot 1 under par through 54 holes of play, leading all participating teams by at least 23 strokes. As a team, BYU shot a total score of 279 on the day. The team's 9-under-par day (279) ties the record for the lowest BYU team score for 18 holes since 2006.

Local freshman Rose Huang shot 2 under par on the day, putting her in sole posession of first place at 5 under par. Winning her first collegiate tournament individually, Huang was excited to share that moment with local friends and family.

"It hasn't hit me yet that I won," Huang said. "As I was warming up before today's round, I felt really good about my game, and everything ended up coming together really nicely. The course we played this week was my home high school course. In my four years of high school golf, I didn't feel like I played this course well, but today when it counted, everything worked out. It was a great feeling to be able to have my parents there to watch me play this week."

Brooklyn Anderson Hocker, who shot her best collegiate score on Tuesday (68), ended the tournament tied for third place, shooting an even par in Round 3. She finished at 3 under par overall.

"We gave a great team effort," Hocker said. "We believed in ourselves, and we had confidence in each other. It was a lot of fun to play in this tournament, and it was a great experience for me to shoot my personal best on Tuesday."

Kendra Dalton also shot her lowest collegiate score, shooting 7 under on the day (65). Dalton birdied eight holes in today's round. With her score of 65, she now holds the second best individual round of 18 score in BYU history behind Maggie Yuan's 64 at the Entrada Classic in 2010.

With Alexandra White's 19th-place finish, four Cougar competitors finished in the top 20. White concluded the event at 8 over par with a 3-over-par day. Senior Lea Garner shot an even par on the day, and concluded the event tied for 26th place.

Shooting a 1-over-par 73 round today, Lauren Atkinson finished the tournament tied for 29th place overall, while teammate Carly Oldroyd tied for 41st (+15).

After three first-place finishes this fall, the 2015-16 BYU women's golf team had the most successful semester in the history of the program.
