Day 2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – With three top-5 finishes from Kendra DaltonAlexandra White and Rose Huang, the BYU women’s golf team took first place in the Aggie Invitational, Wednesday.

“It was an amazing feeling to win this tournament today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “As a coaching staff we are very happy for our girls. The girls work hard every day, and it was great to be able to see their hard work pay off.”

BYU finished the invitational at five-under-par shooting two-over-par on the day. The team was able to keep a five-stroke lead on host New Mexico State (E) as the Aggies shot three-over-par on the day. Crosstown rival UVU concluded the tournament in 13th place at 76-over-par.

Dalton finished the tournament tied for second place shooting two-over-par for the day. She also finished in second place last week at the Rose City Collegiate. Dalton now has three top-5 finishes in her career as a Cougar, with two in the last two weeks.

Teammate Alexandra White finished the event in second alongside Dalton. White shot one-under-par on the day moving her up from her sixth place position, yesterday. This is also White’s second top-5 finish of the year. She took fourth in BYU’s opening fall tournament, the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Huang ended the event tied for fourth place shooting one-over-par on the day, making it her second top-5 finish of the year as well.

“To see Kendra from starting as a walk-on to now being a leader on the field is incredible. She is playing great golf. Alex, too, was wonderful. She is always steady. The performances this week from Alex, Kendra and Rose speak highly about the future of our program,” Roberts said.

Senior Lea Garner finished the tournament in 14th place. Garner placed fourth individually in the Aggie Invitational last year. This is the second fall event in which all four scored Cougar competitors have placed in the top-20.

Brooklyn Anderson Hocker ended the event tied for 16th birding four holes on the day. Lauren Atkinson, who competed individually, shot a 76 today, finishing the tournament tied for 34th place.

The Cougars will travel to Hawaii to participate in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Oct. 20-22, where they will compete in their fourth tournament of the fall season.
