Dalton second place, Cougars continue in first place
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Behind the top-10 finishes of Kendra Dalton, Rose Huang and Alexandra White, the BYU women’s golf team holds its position in first place in the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational after its second round of play, Tuesday.
“It was another great overall team effort, “ BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We didn’t make as many birdie putts today, but we are happy to be under par any time we step on the course.”
Dalton, who shot a 68 Monday, is still tied for second place individually at four-under-par shooting an even par 72 in today’s round. She is one stroke behind New Mexico State’s Viviana Macias (-5).
“Kendra had another fantastic day on the course. What a great opportunity to be where she is. She is definitely ready to play tomorrow,” Roberts said.
Freshman Rose Huang who finished the day in eighth place yesterday, shot two-under-par on the day, and currently holds a spot in the top-5 finishing the day tied for fourth place at two-under-par. She birdied four holes on the day. Junior teammate Alexandra White sits alone in sixth place at one-under-par. White shot even par in today’s second round.
Senior Lea Garner is three-over-par through 36 holes and is tied for 13th place, while Brooklyn Anderson Hocker, who shot one-over-par on the day, is tied for 22nd place. Competing in the event as an individual, Lauren Atkinson is tied for 31st place with seven other competitors.
The Cougars (-7) lead host New Mexico State (-3) by four strokes going into Wednesday's final round. The University of Idaho currently sits in third place at 12-over-par, 15 strokes behind the Aggies. Utah Valley continues in 12th place (+38).
