Dalton finishes first day in fourth, team finishes in fifth
AURORA, Ore. - In its first time traveling to participate in the Rose City Collegiate, the BYU women's golf team is currently in fifth place behind the fourth place finish of junior Kendra Dalton.
“The course has good character,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We have to make sure to play smart golf. We came out a little tentative today, but we made adjustments and played confidently in the second round. We need to have our best round of the tournament tomorrow.”
After today's 36 holes, West Coast Conference opponent San Francisco is tied with Fresno State in first place at five-over-par. The Dons finished the Ptarmigan Ram Classic last week at 27-over-par, 15 strokes behind the first place Cougars. Weber State currently sits in 11th place at 45-over-par.
BYU shot the best second round score (-3) out of any team and has three players in the top-20 after the tournament's first day of play. Dalton led BYU shooting two-over-par on the first round of 18 and three-under-par on the last 18 holes totaling a score of one-under-par. She had eight birdies through 36 holes of play. Dalton is in fourth place behind San Francisco's Ayaka Suzuki and Vanessa Ha who are at -5 and -2, respectively, and Amanda Myers of Northern Colorado (-2). Junior Brooklyn Anderson Hocker shot one-over-par on the day and is tied for 17th place with senior teammate Lea Garner shooting five-over-par for the day.
Freshman Rose Huang shot five-over-par in Round 1, and shot three-over-par in Round 2. At +8 for the day, Huang is tied for 29th place. Junior Alexandra White, who is tied for 48th place, was eight-over-par through the first 18 holes and then shot four-over-par on the second 18. Senior Carly Oldroyd is competing individually in the event, and is tied for 60th place overall.
The Cougars will conclude the Rose City Collegiate Tuesday Sept. 29 with their third round of 18 holes. Live stats can be found on the BYU women's golf schedule page.
