Cougars in second after first day of Ptarmigan Ram Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The BYU women's golf team is tied for second place after the first day of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Monday, in Ft. Collins. Colo.

"I'm very impressed by our play so far," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We played good the first 18 holes, and played even better the last 18. I'm grateful for where we are, and look forward to tomorrow."

After the first 36 holes, Long Beach State is in first place at two-over-par, and BYU trails closely at four-over-par in the 17-team tournament hosted by Colorado State. West Coast Conference opponenent San Francisco is also competing. The Dons are currently tied for fifth place.

All five players that traveled to the tournament placed in the top-25 of 90 players.

Freshman Rose Huang led the Cougars shooting one-under on the first 18 and one-over on the second round, putting her at even for the day. Huang is tied for tenth overall with a score of 144 after 36 holes of play. Junior Alexandra White is in 13th place as she shot one-over, with five biridies in total, and  Brooklyn Anderson Hocker, another junior, is in 14th place. Senior Lea Garner, who shot 3-over-par on the day and had a total of nine birdies, is tied for 21st place with teammate Kendra Dalton.

"Rose played great. She birdied eight holes for us today. I was really impressed with her play," Roberts said.

The remaining four players are competiting at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic as individuals. Carly Oldroyd has the highest inidividual score after the first day, tied for eighth place.

The final round of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic will be played on Tuesday. Live stats can be found online at BYUcougars.com.
