PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s golf team is excited for the upcoming 2015-16 season, one head coach Carrie Roberts believes to be full of potential.

“We’ve brought in some good players, and we have great returners,” Roberts said. “We are expecting to improve this year, and have some really solid finishes.”

The Cougars will be returning many experienced players, including senior Lea Garner. Garner had her best season of her collegiate career last year, with six top-10 finishes.

BYU is also excited for the return of juniors Brooklyn Anderson Hocker and Alexandra White.

White, a Fort Worth, Texas, native, who was named WCC Player of the Month last March, placed first at the Entrada Classic last season. Hocker had a successful summer as she upset defending Utah State Am champion Sirene Blair in a 20-hole face-to-face semifinal match in this year’s 2015 Utah State Am. Their play will be key to the Cougars’ success this year.

Three freshmen Rose Huang, Anna Kennedy and Mallory Muehlbauer, have been added to the upcoming 2015-16 season roster. Kennedy will redshirt the 2015-16 season.

“Rose comes into the program highly experienced and touted,” Roberts said. “She was one of the top recruits of her class, and is very smart. She will play number two for the team right out of the gate, so we have high expectations for Rose. She will do great things for us.”

The program is also excited to add Emily Copier to the coaching staff for the 2015-16 season. Emily played under Coach Roberts at BYU from 2009-11.

“Emily is a PGA certified teacher who will bring a wealth of knowledge, an engaging personality and a positivity that will only help the golf team succeed,” Roberts said.

In the 2014-15 season, the Cougars placed in the top five as a team in eight of their 13 tournaments.

The BYU women’s golf team looks forward to building off last year’s success and continuing to play competitively this upcoming year.

The Cougars will continue their fall season Sept. 28-29 as they participate in the Rose City Collegiate in Oregon.
