BYU takes fifth at WCC Championships
SATICOY, Calif. – Despite a top-10 performance from Alexandra White, BYU women’s golf finished in fifth place at the West Coast Conference Championships on Wednesday.
“We struggled coming in, but they fought today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “It was really windy on one of the hardest golf courses I’ve ever seen. It exposed a lot of weaknesses and gave us a lot to work on. I’m proud of their fight.”
The Cougars took fifth place (+99), eight strokes behind Santa Clara in fourth. Pepperdine won the WCC Championships, shooting 65-over-par as a team. Marissa Chow from Pepperdine won the individual title, shooting 12-over-par.
White tied for eighth in the championships with a 19-over-par total. Her best score came in the second round when she shot 75.
Kendra Dalton finished the tournament in 11th place, shooting 21-over-par. Moving up three places, Lea Garner tied for 14th place after she shot 27-over-par.
Both Maria Yacaman and Carly Oldroyd moved up in the standings with Yacaman taking 22nd place, shooting 36-over-par, and Oldroyd totaling 47-over-par to finish in 23rd place.
White and Garner were both named to the 2015 All-WCC First Team.
The team and individuals now await a possible invitation to the NCAA Regionals, which will take place on May 7-9 in St. George, Utah. It will be announced on April 27.
