ST. GEORGE, Utah – Alex White finished day one of the BYU Entrada Classic tied for second place. White led the Cougars to second place as a team as well.

Perfect conditions greeted BYU women’s golf team Monday morning at their home event, the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah. The sunshine and 70 degree weather was a welcome gift for the Cougars, who have spent several of their last tournaments in wind, rain and fog.

“It was perfect weather,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “And it helps to have a player go low like Alex did today.”

BYU met the excellent conditions with excellent shooting. White led the field shooting five-under after round one. A plus-one performance in round two dropped her a spot, with 140 (67, 73) total for two rounds.

“Alex played really well today,” Roberts said. “But you’ve also got to commend the other girls who backed her up. It takes four for a good team score and that’s what we had today.”

Great days from Kendra Dalton (146), Carly Oldroyd (146), Lea Garner (149) and Maria Yacaman (159) led to an overall team score of 581 (290, 291), BYU’s two best team rounds of spring play.

Besides those scoring for BYU as a team, Brooklyn Hocker (150), Sierra Harr (152) and Annie Yang (153) played very well as individuals.

“There would be a lot of teams that want those girls,” Roberts said.

California’s Lucia Gutierrez finished rounds one and two tied with Whtie for second, leading the Golden Bears to first place after day one with a team score of 268 (284, 284). Vanessa Ha from San Francisco leads the field after round two with 138 (70, 68).

The Cougars will resume play Tuesday, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. MDT.
