SAN JOSE, Calif. – Alexandra White led BYU women's golf to fourth place on day one of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite hosted by San Jose State University.

“That first round was really incredible,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “It was really cold, it was really windy, but Alex just made the most of it and had a great day.”

White took an early lead, finishing the first round one under par. Fresno State’s Hannah Soderston managed a second-place round, scoring two over, while Lea Garner’s three over had her in a five-way tie for third. Those tallies put BYU in second place with 304, just one shot behind Fresno State with 303.

“I don't think she knew she had the lead because they don't have scoreboards, but she's a great player and she'll get it back tomorrow,” Roberts said.

After difficult second rounds, White finished the day tied for sixth place, while Garner tied for twelfth. BYU fell to fourth place after a 315 team-score.

Fresno State finished the day in first place, scoring 303 and 294 in rounds one and two, respectively. The hosting team, San Jose State, sits in second (312, 297) and Boise State is in third (309, 307).

The Cougars will resume play tomorrow, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. PST. Live scoring is avaliable on the BYU women's golf schedule page
