SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Lea Garner led the field after all points were tallied on day one of the Gold Rush Tournament presented by Southern California Ford Dealers. Garner shares the top spot with Allie Anderson of Colorado State.

“Lea led the team with her strong play and has a chance to win the individual title,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “But we’re looking for a stronger team score tomorrow.”

With a first place position for Garner at one-under-par after two rounds, a victory after round three is within reach if she keeps it up. Maria Yacaman, who shot six-over-par, is also displaying solid play.

“We’re usually under 300 so we’re looking to finish strong and have a little bit better round tomorrow, ” Roberts said.

BYU finished the day in sixth place, scoring 304 in the first round and 302 in the second.

Long Beach State, the hosting team finished the day in first place, scoring 289 and 303 in rounds one and two respectively, followed closely by Fresno State (299, 295) and Colorado State (294, 301).

The Cougars will resume play tomorrow, teeing off at 8 a.m. PST.
