BYU announces recruits for 2015-16 season

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s golf team announced that Rose Huang from Honolulu, Hawai’i, and Mallory Muehbauer from San Diego, California, have signed a national letter of intent to play golf for BYU in the 2015-16 season.

Huang is currently ranked 38th nationally on the Junior Golf Scoreboard, 17th in the class of 2015. Huang has won six individual Hawaii State Junior individual tournaments in six starts in 2014. At the 2014 Junior PGA Championship, Huang finished in a tie for 11th. She finished in the round of 16 in the 2014 US Girls Jr. Am. Championship and in the round of 32 in the 2014 US Women’s Am. Public Links Championship. In the 2013 US Women’s State Team Championship, Huang took 7th place individually out of 150 players. On her high school team, Huang was the runner-up individually at the 2012 Hawai'i High School State Championship and led her team to its first state championship title. She was named Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association Player of the Year twice in her respective age groups.

Aside from golf, Huang has also succeeded in the classroom. She had a 4.18 cumulative GPA after her junior year. She has also made the Headmaster’s List Top Scholar for six consecutive years. In her first quarter of her senior year, she has earned a 4.6 GPA. Huang has received the National Merit Student Commendation Award and is a member of the National Chinese Honor Society and the Cum Laude Society. In 2012, Huang won the Iolani School Business Plan Competition.

Muehbauer has a lot of highlights from summer 2014. She qualified for Junior Worlds and for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship. She also took third place in the San Diego Junior Golf Player of the Year points after taking second place at the Craig Stadler Memorial and first place at ‘Billy Kids Junior.’ Her lowest round was the first round of the Stadler Memorial when she shot 69. In high school, Muehbauer medaled in eight out of the 13 high school matches she played in. She took second place in her league at the North County Conference Championship.

Academically, Muehbauer was also successful. She was on the honor roll all four years of high school and was ranked in the top 10 of her class. She was a varsity member of speech and debate and recieved first place honors in her Thematic Interpretation Speech in the San Diego Imperial Valley League. In November 2014, Muehbauer was nominated as Rising Star of the Month. She is also a member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and the National Honor Society. Muehbauer is an AP Scholar with distinction.
