Garner rises to 1st, Cougars drop to 6th on second day

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – Junior Lea Garner moved up to first place while BYU women’s golf dropped to sixth in the second round of the NM State Aggie Invitational on Tuesday.

“Lea had another great round and has a good chance tomorrow,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We need to commit to what we need to do and put together a nice round tomorrow.”

After a third place finish during the first round, the Cougars dropped to a tie for sixth place in the second round, shooting 10-over-par. Idaho is still in first place at the end of the second day (-5).

Garner shot another round of 69 on Tuesday. She is tied in first place with Charlotte Jaengkit from Grand Canyon. They are both shooting six-under-par.

Freshman Kendra Dalton moved up 15 places to a tie for 25th, shooting four-over-par. Junior Carly Oldroyd shot five-over-par and tied for 30th place.

Senior Maria Yacaman is tied for 46th place after the second round, shooting seven-over-par. Finishing in a tie for 65th place, freshman Sierra Harr shot 13-over-par.

Competing individually, sophomore Brooklyn Anderson Hocker moved up to a tie for 38th place, shooting six-over-par.

The Cougars will tee off the final round at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Live scoring will be available on the BYU schedule page.
