Garner tenth, Cougars sixth at Cowgirl Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. - Lea Garner jumped 12 places to lead the BYU women's golf team to a sixth place finish after the final round of the Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday. 

"We had a 297 and anytime you finish under 300, it's a good day," BYU women's golf coach Carrie Roberts said. "The girls all had a good round and everything went well. We feel very confident going into the [West Coast Conference] tournament and we feel like we can play well."

BYU tied in sixth place with Montana at 45-over-par in the 20-team tournament. New Mexico State finished on top at 23-over-par with West Coast Conference foe Santa Clara trailing by nine strokes at 32-over-par. 

Garner tied in 10th place to finish 9-over-par with a pair of birdies on the day. Alexandra White trailed by two strokes at 11-over-par with three birdies to tie in 17th place. 

Senior Selu Fotu tied in 22nd place at 12-over-par and three birdies, while Annie Yang tied in 49th place at 18-over-par and two birdies in the final round. Maria Yacaman tied in 67th place at 23-over-par and a pair of birdies. 

Individual participant Brooklyn Anderson finished tied in 94th place at 35-over-par. 

The Cougars enter the West Coast Conference tournament on Monday, April 14-16, at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. Live stats can be found on the schedule page
