Garner and Cougars in 2nd after day 1

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Lea Garner led the BYU women's golf team to a second place standing after day one of the Entrada Classic. 

"It was long, but it was good," BYU women's golf coach Carrie Roberts said. "The wind really picked up and it got really tough, but we battled through it, fought back and played well in very tough conditions."

BYU finished at 46-over-par with third place Minnesota trailing by eight strokes. No. 43 Wisconsin finished on top after two rounds at 43-over-par. 

Garner tied in second place at 6-over-par with Minnesota's Anna Laorr and finished with a single birdie in the opening rounds of the 54-hole tournament. 

"Lea was awesome and it's hard to explain just how windy it was," Roberts said. "She did well on her back nine." 

Alexandra White finished tied for fourth place at 9-over-par with five birdies on the day, while Annie Yang added four birdies at 15-over-par. Senior Selu Fotu tied for 79th place at 35-over-par with one birdie. 

Indvidiual participants Brooklyn Anderson and Carly Oldroyd finished in 71st and 72nd place, respectively. 

In-state teams Weber State, Utah Valley, Southern Utah, Dixie State College finished in the last four places, respectively, out of 16 teams.

The Cougars will return to action on the Entrada Golf Course for the final round on Tuesay with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. MDT. Live stats can be found on the schedule page, here
