WAHIAWA, Hawaii - Senior Selu Fotu finished day two of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in second place to keep the BYU women's golf team in fifth place on Wednesday.

"We got nine shots better and it's always good to do better each round," BYU women's golf head coach Carrie Roberts said. "I thought we made less mistakes and I was happy that we made better decisions."

BYU tied with Northern Arizona at 38-over-par and with a total score of 614. Tournament-host Hawaii (599) moved up to first at 23-over-par with New Mexico State (601) trailing at 25-over-par.

After tying in ninth place on day one, Fotu finished one-under-par in the second round, two-over-par for the tournament, to place in second behind Northern Arizona's Kaitlen Parsons. Fotu finished the round with a total of six birdies and tied a tournament-best 71.

"She hit the ball really well," Roberts said. "She just put together a solid round."

Sophomore Lea Garner completed the second round with a total score of 80 and is now nine-over-par to tie in 21st place. Annika Afoa Kahaiali'i tied in 34th place at 14-over-par and had the team's second-best score of 74 for the round, which included a birdie. Carly Oldroyd finished in 41st place at 16-over-par, while Annie Yang finished right behind in 42nd place at 17-over-par.

Individual participants Gabby Gregory (+24) tied for 48th place and Brooklyn Anderson (+25) finished in 51st place to end day two of the eight-team tournament.

With one more chance tomorrow, Roberts hopes to move up in the rankings.

"We need to hit it close and continue to make better decisions," Roberts said. "We're right there. If we make a few more birdies, we'll do great."

The Cougars play their final round on the Leilehua Golf Course on Thursday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. HST. Live stats can be followed at golfstats.com
