PULLMAN, Wash. - The BYU women's golf team finished in third place following the first two rounds at the Cougar Cup tournament on Monday.

"I think we're in a good position," BYU women's golf head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We have one more day, but we played great in the second round which was really good to see. The weather got worse as the day went on, but we played better."

The Cougars tied for sixth place after the first round, but improved to a third place finish in the 12-team tournament at 25-over-par. The tournament host, Washington State (+12), finished on top with West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga (+18) in second place.

Sophomore Lea Garner led the way improving from fifth to tied for second out of 77 players. Garner eagled her 7th hole and finished one-over-par.

"Lea played consistent like always," Roberts said. "She was hitting good shots and played great."

Selu Fotu improved from being tied at 20th place to being tied at eighth at five-over-par with four birdies in the second round.  Annika Afoa Kahaialii also jumped from 43rd to 20th place at nine-over-par. Freshman Annie Yang finished 22nd at 10-over-par with three birdies on the day.

Individual player Brooklyn Anderson finished 30-over-par to conclude her first two rounds.

BYU will look to improve and move up in the ranks tomorrow.

"If we can improve our green speed tomorrow, we should have a great day," Roberts said.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PST. Live stats for the final round can be followed at golfstat.com
