Cross Country Opens 2011 Season
PROVO, Utah--The BYU women’s cross country team heads up to Logan this weekend to open the 2011 cross country season at the Utah State Invitational.
After finishing the 2010 season third in the Mountain West Conference and fourth in the Mountain Region, the Cougars narrowly missed the opportunity to qualify for the National Championships.
But even without the strong national finish, the Cougars are still ranked 25th in the 2011 U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll.
Along with high expectations for the new season, BYU also enters its new conference ranked second in the WCC Women’s Cross Country Preseason Poll.
Seniors Katy Andrews and Katie Palmer were named to the 2011 preseason All-West Coast Conference team, along with junior Sarah Edwards. Other returning runners include Nicole Nielsen, Lisa Drury, Candace Eddy and Rachel Lange.
The Utah State Invitational will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 9:00 a.m. MT.
