Orton to be honored on Honda Cup broadcast Monday
PROVO, Utah — Named the 2021 Honda Sport Award winner for cross country in December of last year, former BYU women's cross country/track and field athlete Whittni Orton is a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the Honda Cup award.
Orton, whose individual national title at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships led the Cougars to a runner-up finish, their third-straight podium finish, was awarded the honor following the season, automatically making her eligible for the Collegiate Women’s Sports Awards’ (CWSA) prestigious Honda Cup.
She and 11 other Honda Sport Award winners make up the finalists for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and Honda Cup award, which will be announced during the live Collegiate Women Sports Awards Show presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m PDT, from the USC Galen Center Founders Room in Los Angeles, California.
The Honda Sport Award and Honda Cup is voted on by over 1,000 senior women administrators at NCAA schools around the country, including BYU senior associate athletic director Liz Darger, in efforts to represent “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.
