13 earn WCC academic honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference recognized 13 BYU women’s cross country student-athletes in its annual WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their academic achievements during the 2013-14 academic year.

Nicole Nielsen and Maddy Roach earned Gold honors (4.00-3.75) maintaining GPAs of 3.93. Natalie Shields, Sarah Yingling and Andrea Nelson Harrison received silver honors with cumulative GPAs between 3.74-3.5. Bryn Rohner, Maren Fassmann, Carrie Jube, Rachel Stewart, Makenna Smith, Jennica Redd, Kelsey Brown, and Lindsey Sowards Nielson garnered bronze honors having GPAs between 3.49-3.0. Harrison, Nielson and Stewart are all repeat honorees from the 2012-13 academic year.

The recipients are separated by three categories, gold, silver and bronze. Gold recipients earned a 3.75 GPA or higher, silver earned GPAs between 3.74 and 3.5, and bronze honorees had GPAs between 3.5-3.0.

The WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll has the following requirements for prospective student athletes:

1.     Individuals must have earned a varsity letter in a sport which the conference crowned a champion during the completed academic year.

2.     The cumulative GPA must be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

3.     Individuals must have completed an average of 12 credit hours per term.
