Cougars' Ranking Highest Ever
PROVO -- The BYU softball team finish with a No. 15 ranking in the final USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 polls, the Cougars' highest ranking in program history.
The ranking is also the highest ever by a Mountain West Conference institution after BYU advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in school and MWC history this past season.
The Cougars shot up the polls after beginning the postseason unranked in either poll. BYU earned 303 total points in the USA Today/NFCA poll and 195 points in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
BYU went a program-best 46-13 record in 2010 after clinching its fifth outright MWC regular-season title and appearing in its sixth consecutive (seventh overall) NCAA Tournament. The Cougars swept the Austin Regional with a 3-0 record before falling to eventual WCWS Championship runner-up Arizona in the Super Regional round.
The Wildcats ranked No. 2 in both polls while Texas finished with a No. 19 ranking.
