Korth named WCC Pitcher of the Week
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Freshman Kaysen Korth was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Korth led BYU to three wins at the Trailblazer Tournament last week, surrendering just two runs while going the distance against UNLV, fanning 15 Rebel batters to tie a school record for most strikeouts in a single game.
She proceeded to pitch 7.1 scoreless innings across games against Portland State and Idaho State, allowing just five hits and striking out 11 to tally 28 total strikeouts on the weekend. The Bluffdale, Utah native closed out the tournament with a 0.93 ERA in 15 innings pitched.
This is the Cougars' third weekly honor of the season and Korth's second of the year after her and senior third baseman Martha Epenesa swept the conference awards after BYU went 5-0 at the Littlewood Classic in Arizona two weeks ago.
With nine days off, the Cougars will next play on Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. MDT, hosting in-state rival Utah in BYU's home opener at Gail Miller Field.
