BYU Softball adds transfers Alyssa Aguilar and Maddie Bejarano

PROVO, Utah — BYU softball has added two transfer signees, outfielder Maddie Bejarano and pitcher Alyssa Aguilar, head coach Gordon Eakin announced.

Bejarano joins the Cougars after three seasons at the the University of Central Florida (UCF). She played in 32 games for the Knights last season, helping them to their first NCAA Tournament hosting nod and first trip to the NCAA Super Regional.

"Maddie was a major part of taking the University of Central Florida softball team to the Super Regionals this year," Eakin said. "She plays at a high level every day but is also a big moment player. The bigger the moment, the better she performs. She is a strong team leader and a 5 tool player. Maddie is a great addition to our team both on and off the field. We are very fortunate she is now a Cougar."

The junior out of Cottonwood, Ariz., bats left-handed and throws right-handed. Playing in 103 games at UCF from 2020-2022, Bejarano recorded a .248 batting average and .398 slugging percentage in 113 at-bats, also boasting a perfect fielding percentage in her three collegiate seasons.

Aguilar comes to Provo after one year at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The sophomore pitcher made eight appearances last season with four starts, striking out five batters in 15 innings.

"Alyssa is a huge addition to our pitching staff," Eakin said. "She has a proven record on high-level performance. She won three straight Arizona High School State championships. She performs her best when the game is on the line. She moves the ball and hits great spots. We are thrilled she choose to be a Cougar."

Aguilar hails from Tucson, Ariz., and prepped at Salpointe Catholic High School, where she helped the Lancers to state titles in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Posting a 59-10 career record in the circle, with 516 total strikeouts, Aguilar was also named southern Arizona pitcher of the year during those three championship seasons.
