BYU Softball Announces 2022 Signees
PROVO, Utah – Seven outstanding athletes signed scholarship agreements with BYU softball and will join the Cougars for the 2023 season.
"We are thrilled with our 2022 signing class," said Gordon Eakin, BYU head coach. "The strength this class has athletically, academically and in personal character will be felt immediately both on and off the field. These seven student-athletes have the talent to compete at the highest level."
Below is some information about each member of the 2022 signing class, as well as quotes about each student-athlete from Coach Eakin and associate head coach Pete Meredith.
Jolee Benson
Gilbert, Arizona | Gilbert High School | Outfield and Catcher | 5-8
"Jolee is a no nonsense player. She is a great athlete and just goes out and gets the job done. She is my kind of player, hard-nosed and aggressive in her approach. She will spend time behind the plate as well as in the outfield. We look for big things from Jolee." -Coach Eakin

Ailana Agbayani
Mililani Mauka, Hawaii | ‘Iolani High School | Middle Infield and Outfield | 5-4
"Ailana is an incredible athlete. She can hit for average, power and has game changing speed. We believe Ailana will be the catalyst of our offense and will be a cornerstone on defense as a middle infielder. Ailana has great game instincts, she knows how to play this game. Ailana has great leadership skills and we look forward to her leadership and calming influence in our lineup. She will make an immediate impact." -Coach Eakin

Delaney Baker
Farmington, Utah | Farmington High School | Pitcher | 6-3
"Delaney is very competitive and has the drive to be dominate on the mound. She has tremendous work ethic and wants to be in the big time situations. Delaney has a great drop ball and can keep good hitting teams off the scoreboard. Delaney will make our pitching staff stronger on day one." -Coach Eakin

Ella Herrewig
Abbotsford, British Columbia | Yale Secondary School | Shortstop | 5-7
"Ella is a big time talent that will prove out with experience. She can do things as an athlete that are not common in our game. She is a big offensive threat that can hit for power and average from the left side. Ella can play the middle infield or third base. I look for big things from Ella as she develops in our program. She has All-American tools." -Coach Eakin

Lexie Bennett
Scottsboro, Alabama | Scottsboro High School | Outfield | 5-7
"Speed, speed, speed. In this game, speed can be a game changer. Lexie has that game-changing speed. Offensively, she will put pressure on the defense both at the plate and on the bases. Lexie will spend her defensive time in the outfield. We believe Lexie will make an immediate impact in our lineup." -Coach Eakin

Las Vegas, Nevada | Shadow Ridge High School | Middle Infield | 5-9
"Hailey is a very versatile athlete. She can play just about any defensive position on the field but will fill a role somewhere in our infield. Hailey can hit for power and average and has above average speed. She is a team player and we look for Hailey to have a huge impact in our lineup." -Coach Eakin

Hina Huber
Mesa, Arizona | Mountain View High School | Pitcher | 5-7
"Hina will be a force in the circle for us. She has the pitches, speed, spin and control to be dominate at the upper levels of Division I softball. She is a fighter and wants the ball when the game is on the line. Hina is a competitor. She will add strength to our staff on day one." -Coach Eakin
