Cougars sweep WCC weekly awards for third time

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Rylee Jensen and Arissa Paulson were named West Coast Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, the conference announced Monday. 

Jensen went 7 for 12 through four games, recording six runs, seven hits, two homers and three RBI. The junior left fielder went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI in the first game of a doubleheader against San Diego. Jensen blasted home runs in her first two at-bats to give BYU the lead.  In the second game, she went 2 for 2 with three runs, a walk, a double and a stolen base.

Paulson pitched the Cougars to three wins during the week recording a 0.35 ERA. The redshirt sophomore pitched 20 innings allowing only one run and five hits while striking out 17 batters. Paulson earned shutouts against both Southern Utah and San Diego in the the first game of the weekend series. The right-handed pitcher allowed only one hit in the first game against San Diego and two against SUU and USD in the final game.

This is the third time that BYU was swept the weekly awards. Jensen and Autumn Moffat received the award in week two while Libby Sugg and Paulson earned the award in week eight. BYU has now been awarded eleven times this season by the WCC.
