Bell, Thompson named to 2017 WCC All-Academic Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Seniors Lauren Bell and Ashley Thompson were named to the 2017 West Coast Conference Softball All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

Bell and Thompson were both recognized for their pursuit of academic excellence in conjunction with their contributions to their team. Additionally, senior McKenzie St. Clair received all-academic honorable mention.

Bell has hit .291 so far this year in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. In sacrifice hits, she leads the team with 10. She has anchored the infield at second base all year, starting 51 games. In WCC play, she hit a grand slam against Pacific, the second of her career.

At first base, Thompson has started all 52 games this season. She is currently hitting .327, notching 38 RBI and eight home runs. She is second on the team in runs with 42. On senior day against San Diego, she went 3 for 3 with two runs, one RBI and one home run.

In 25 games played in the outfield, St. Clair is hitting .255. At Southern Utah, she went 2 for 3 with two runs, including a solo home run.

At the end of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
