PROVO, Utah – Key home runs in both games from Ashley Thompson and Alexa Strid led BYU to a pair of wins over Boise State (6-4, 6-5) in a doubleheader on Saturday at Gail Miller Field.

In the first game, Thompson led the team with four RBI, two hits and one run. Her three-run homer came in the fifth inning. Another RBI from Arissa Paulson in the same inning pushed BYU to its final run total of six.

McKenna Bull tallied seven strikeouts in her five innings pitched in game one against the Broncos. Kerisa Viramontes closed out the game in the circle to hold on to the 6-4 win.

Strid powered the BYU offense to a 6-5 win in the second game against Boise State. Her grand slam in the first inning put the Cougars on top early after the Broncos scored two in the top of the first. An RBI double from Libby Sugg in the bottom of the third powered in two more runs for the team.

Paulson entered in the third inning to hold onto the win for BYU. She threw five strikeouts to close out the victory.

Fall play continues for the Cougars with an intrasquad scrimmage open to the public on Friday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. MDT at Gail Miller Field.
