Bell earns WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Junior Lauren Bell collected her first West Coast Conference Player of the Week honor of her career this week after leading her team to a series sweep at Pacific.

The shortstop Bell hit .545 in the three-game series sweep at Pacific over the weekend. She went 6 for 11 with five RBI and five runs scored. After this weekend, she is now tied for first on the team in runs with 35 and is second in hits with 51.

In the opening game, she had two RBI to lead BYU to a 5-3 win. In the second game, the Cougars were down 4-2 in the top of the seventh with two outs when Bell came up to bat. She hit her second home run of the season with a three-run bomb off the scoreboard to take the 5-4 lead and the win. To cap off the series, Bell went 3 for 5 with two runs scored to take the final game 8-4, completing the series sweep. 

This is BYU’s second WCC Player of the Week honor of the season and second-consecutive after Ashley Thompson won last week. San Diego’s Megan Sabbatini won WCC Pitcher of the Week.

BYU next travels to Southern Utah on Tuesday to face the Thunderbirds at 3 p.m. MDT.
