Almond named WCC Pitcher of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior RHP Tori Almond has been named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Almond pitched BYU to two wins over Pacific. She finished with a 2-0 record over 9.1 innings pitched, giving up one earned run and striking out nine.
Against Pacific on Friday, Almond went five innings with four strikeouts and held Pacific off to give BYU the momentum in the series. After a grand slam gave the Tigers a 6-4 lead on Saturday, Almond entered the game and allowed four hits and no earned runs to allow the Cougars to come back and finish the sweep.
This is Almond's first weekly honor this year and the sixth such honor of her career. She was named pitcher of the week twice as a freshman, once as a sophomore and twice as a junior.
Freshman McKenna Bull is the only other BYU player to be named as the WCC Pitcher of the Week. Freshmen McKenzie St. Clair, Sydney Broderick and Mercedes O’Connor, along with senior Katie Manuma have earned a combined six WCC Player of the Week honors.
BYU begins its season-ending home stand with a doubleheader against cross-town rival Utah Valley on Tuesday at 5 p.m. MDT at Gail Miller Field. The games will be broadcast live by TheW.tv.
