LONDON – BYU men’s and women’s volleyball technical assistant Giuseppe Vinci is set to participate in his second Olympics as a scout coach for the USA women’s national volleyball team this summer.

The London Olympics are the second for Vinci, who was a scout coach for the Italian men’s national team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“When you pack preparing to start an adventure that will take you to the Olympics, it’s like you’re putting in your bag not just your clothes, but all the friends that influenced you, all of your memories related to volleyball, all those you love, and literally everything that you feel has been important in making you reach such a wonderful and unimaginable achievement,” Vinci said.

As scout coach, Vinci is responsible for collecting and compiling data used to prepare scouting reports for each opponent.

After finishing with the BYU men’s volleyball team this spring, Vinci has traveled to California, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, China and is now in London.

Vinci and the USA women’s national volleyball team start match play Saturday against Korea.

The Italian native got his start with the USA women’s volleyball team in the summer of 2009 at the Pan American Cup in Florida. Since then, he has traveled to the World Championships in 2010 and the World Cup in 2011. Vinci has worked with the BYU volleyball teams since 2008.
