PROVO, Utah -- Two wins against No 74 TCU opponents earned Georgy Batrakov Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Wednesday, his third such honor of the season.

Batrakov, a native of Yaroslavl, Russia, helped the No. 36 BYU BYU men’s tennis team to victory in its first match of conference play. The Cougars began the match down 2-0, but Batrakov’s defeat of Horned Frog Slah Mbarek on Court 2 (6-2, 6-2) put BYU’s first point on the board and pushed the team back on track for a 4-3 win.

Prior to his singles victory, Batrakov teamed up with Thomas Shubert to take down Mbarek and Soren Goritzka on Court 2 in doubles. Despite the duo’s 8-3 win, the Cougars lost the doubles point, putting the Cougars behind.

Batrakov increased his winning streak to 13 matches. With Shubert, Batrakov is undefeated in doubles with a 9-0 record. Batrakov’s winning records have helped BYU to 10-match winning streak, including defeats of seven nationally ranked teams.

Thursday, Batrakov and the Cougars will face UNLV in Las Vegas looking to increase their winning streaks.
