Cougars Fall 4-3 at Oregon

PROVO -- For the second consecutive match, the No. 58 BYU Cougars took a tough loss, losing 4-3 to Oregon. Despite winning the doubles point, being on the road against Oregon was just too much for the Cougars to overcome.

"The team is a bit disappointed," assistant coach Brad Pearce said. "We really wanted to win, but they were a good team. It would have been a good win for us."

Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms, the No. 10 doubles team in the nation, dominated at the No. 1 doubles position, beating Swinnen/Teig 8-0. Erik Nyman and Nic Losee won at the No. 2 spot 9-8. Anton Rudjuk, filling in for Jeff Harbach, teamed with Jeff Olsen at the No. 3 spot and fell to Kost/Palberg 8-5.

Unfortunately, the doubles success didn't carry over into the singles matches. Vilms easily won at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-3. Erik Nyman was the only other Cougar to win, defeating Pawlowski at the No. 3 position 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.

"We need to get a little more production out of our singles," Pearce said. "Hopefully we can get it together for the Washington match."

BYU will take on No. 21 Washington at Oregon Saturday afternoon. The Cougars will then return home and have next weekend off.
