Ball, Leite named to WCC All-Academic Team, three others named honorable mention

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior David Ball and junior Matheus Ferreira Leite were named to the 2019-20 West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday.

A philosophy major, Ball earned a 3.8 GPA while Ferreira Leite received a 3.58 GPA in civil engineering. Three other teammates Vinicius Feijao Nogueira, Sean Hill, Sam Tullis were selected as honorable mentions.

Ball was a team co-captain in 2019-20 who posted a 5-7 singles record and a 5-4 mark in tournament play. He also tallied a 9-5 doubles record including going 6-1 in dual matches. Ball also participated in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships and garnered a WCC doubles team of the week honor with teammate Sean Hill.

Leite finished his junior season with an 11-11 overall singles record, going 4-7 in dual matches. He also went 9-6 in doubles and competed in four fall tournaments including the ITA All-American and the ITA Regional Championships.

Feijao Noguiera, a pre-business major with a 3.74 GPA, played in three fall tournaments while going 1-5 in singles and 2-4 in doubles.

Hill, a senior economics major (3.24 GPA), was the singles champion at the ITA Mountain Regional Fall Championships. He compiled an 18-5 overall singles record while going 6-3 at the No. 1 singles position. In doubles play, Hill went 11-6 on the season.

Tullis, earned a 3.34 GPA in economics compiling a 12-8 overall singles record including a 5-4 mark in dual matches and went 3-0 at the No. 4 singles position. He tallied an 11-8 overall record in doubles play and advanced to the doubles quarterfinals in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships with teammate Ben Gajardo.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
